Plans and more photos.

This next weekend (June 12/13/14) is my free weekend and a friend and I are heading to Bilbao, home of the Guggenheim Museum. We´re staying at a hostel on the outskirts of town and I hope that I´ll have time to take tons of photos! I definitely won´t miss the Guggenheim, but there´s also supposed to be an enormously popular outdoor market with fresh produce. On 6/14 I´ll return to Oviedo on the bus (a 5 hour ride) and get ready for my first full week of class. It´s hard to believe I´ve been here for three weeks and only have four more to go! I have purchased my hostel beds or my last 8 days in Spain. In Barcelona, I will be sleeping at the Mediterranean Youth Hostel from 6/27 to 6/29 and in Madrid I will be sleeping at the Musas Residencefrom 6/30 to 7/03. I arrive in Salt Lake City around midnight on 7/4/2009. Last Wednesday (June 3) we went to the aquarium in Gijon. Here are a few photos:

Saturday, our class excursion was to (1) the Museum at Altamira, (2) Santillana del Mar, and (3) Comillas. The Museum at Altamira was really cool. Basically, it was an identical reproduction of caves with 15,000 year old drawings in them. It´s fascinating that the drawings still exist after such a long period of time. Thet tour guide explained how all the colors were produced but I don´t remember now ... the museum part with artifacts and bones was interesting too. Taking photos wasn´t allowed inside, so here is a photo of the exterior:

Santillana del Mar´s main attraction, to me, was the Museo de Tortura. That´s right ... TORTURE MUSEUM. Other than that, there wasn´t much to do. I bought a couple of post cards and took photos of some interesting buildings and streets. Here´s some of the torture museum:

Finally, our last stop on Saturday was in Comillas. This city is amazing. There´s a neat cemetery, a Gaudi house, and really neat architecture. Oh, and a beach. I wish we had spent mor time there... I will post pictures later, since they´re not on this computer right now and I´m leaving for Bilbao first thing in the morning.

On Saturday night we went out dancing with a group from our program. I finally got home, showered, and fell asleep around 5am on Sunday. It was harsh because I had to be up at 9:30am and be on a bus at 10:30am heading to Leon. More adventures soon!
